Minister of Development, Turkey

Lütfi Elvan has been appointed as the Minister of Development in May 2016.

Prior to this, he served as the Deputy Prime Minister (2015-2016), Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications (2013-2015), and Adviser to then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (2007-2011). He has been elected as an MP in 2007, 2011 and two consecutive elections held in 2015.

Before his political career, from 1989, he served at the Prime Ministry, State Planning Organization at various capacities including as the Deputy Undersecretary (2002-2007) and Head of the Department of Priority Regions in Development (1996-2002). Mr Elvan started his career at Etibank as an engineer at the Operational Research Department in 1987.

Elvan studied Mining Engineering at İstanbul Technical University. He holds a Master of Philosophy degree from Leeds University in the UK. He also has a Master of Arts degree in Economy from Delaware University in the USA.
