Valeriy Petrov

Director of the Almaty regional Center for Emergency Situations and DRR (CESDRR)

Born January 25, 1951 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In 1978 he graduated with honors from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute named after V. Lenin, majored in electrical engineer.

More than 25 years Mr. Petrov has been closely involved in the formation of the emergency situations prevention and liquidation system in the Republic of Kazakhstan. A career in the field of emergencies began as the Chief of Information and Communication Office of the Council of Ministers of Kazakh SSR. Subsequently, he held various positions, including Vice-President of the Agency for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 10 years was the vice-Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed the Committee for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the Kazakhstan President’s Decree of May 5, 2008 № 580 “On conferring high military and special ranks, class ranks” was  given the Major General rank.

He was awarded with various medals including  “Aibyn” Republic of Kazakhstan, “Friendship” and “Alexander Nevsky” of the Russian Federation, medal of the International Civil Defence Organization, letters of thanks of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and other medals of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Armenia, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, the breastplate “Honorary employee of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan” and the honorary signs of MES of Russia.
